The black and slate version of my ipad mini got two scuffs for no reason at all.

Everyone had that issue and said that it wasnt apparent on the white version.

Based on that, do you think the same will apply on the ipad air?

we had 2 black mini 16gig- exchanged for 2 white 32gig.
Both black minis had scuffs marks out of the box.
Both white minis are scuff free.

My full size ipad 3 in black was scuff free out of box- so go figure.

Well it doesn't take much to figure that one out.

The black Mini's have a black anodized finish which scuffs easy - the iPad 3 whether it be black or white is just plain Aluminium like the white Mini.

ok- wasn't aware of the different finish. Makes sense. thanks.

Does the black ipad air also have idonized black finish?

It has a Space Grey shell so is still anodized but probably will better camouflage the marks, White iPad will be the best way to prevent it altogether (you can still mark/scratch them just not as easy).
