I'm looking to upgrade from my 2018 base iPad, and am weighing whether to get the latest iPad Air, or an iPad Pro.
My main use case is wanting more screen real estate while working away from my desk. Sometimes that'll be Sidecar, more often it'll be Universal Control with a PDF or website up on the iPad. I understand I don't need a powerful iPad to do this, but here are some more factors:
* I routinely open and work with huge PDFs, and my DevonThink databases are also huge -- it lags on my 2018 iPad.
* I could make due with 64GB, but 128 or 256GB would be better.
* I want this purchase to last 5+ years. My guess is M1 will be supported longer than the A series processors?
* The 12.6" iPad Pro screen size isn't make-it-or-break-it, but it sure would be nice.
* I appreciate high quality displays, especially XDR. I'm not someone who cares a ton about ProMotion, but it would might be that extra push if I'm already leaning toward an iPad that has it.
* I'm not a big mobile gamer, but I'd like to be able to play current games once in a while.
* I don't want to spend more than $1000 (and I don't need cellular).
I would probably have already bought the latest iPad Air if the price jump to 256GB weren't so big. I'm considering a refurbished A12X or A12Z iPad Pro 12.6", but I'm a little concerned it'll become a legacy product before I'm done with it.
So my current thinking is to wait for the M2 iPad Pros to come out, then hunt for a nicely discounted M1 iPad Pro 12.6".
Your input welcome. Thanks!
