Let's be real. There are times when serial upgraders regret getting a particular iPhone that year. For me, it was the iPhone 7. I was coming from the SE1 after using it for a few months. The battery life was solid and the small form factor was still an appeal back then. When the 7 came out, I obviously have to have one. And when I did, I was disappointed with how "cheap" the word "iPhone" look at the back of the Black version. The battery life on the regular 7 was straight up below average too. All in all, it was a subpar experience and the 8 fixed the gripes I had with the 7.

What is yours?

It may be the 14 Pro Max. I thought the 13 Pro Max was peak iPhone so I didn't really need to buy it. And the Dynamic Island is too gimmicky for me and takes up too much space. I probably should have waited for no DI or notch at all.

The regular 14, I traded in my perfectly good 11 for it and the 14 still bothered my eyes. So I lost a good phone and ended up buying an SE because that was the only phone I can use. Until I decided that was to small for me and bought a used 11. That one trade in has cost me as much as a flagship phone!!

I don't even have to think about this, definitely the iPhone 6s Plus.

While I am not a serial upgrader, I did upgrade to the iPhone 6s Plus at launch. Coming from this upgrade order, Original iPhone in 2007, to iPhone 4s at launch, and then the iPhone 5s at launch, my wife cracked her iPhone screen a few months before the new iPhone 6s were to launch, and I told her that I would give her my iPhone 5s when the new iPhones launched.

I actually hated the iPhone 6 design, but decided to give the Plus size 6s a try, thinking that I would like the large screen. I was wrong.

The phone was just too big. I couldn't use it one-handed, had trouble taking photos with it one-handed, couldn't fit it in my clothes' pockets. I couldn't fit it anywhere in some of my cars, which I would end up laying the giant phone on the seat, it would sometimes fly off the seat going around a turn.

Mix that with all the iOS9 bugs, and I just hated my expensive, large iPhone.

My wife ended up cracking the screen of the iPhone 5s I gave her, and this is around the time that the iPhone SE1 came out. I got her the SE1 (and an Otterbox Defender case), and when I was installing the case on her new iPhone, I was a little jealous of the smaller size. So much so that I considered getting one, but I didn't want to downgrade my storage space (128GB on the 6s Plus versus 64GB on the SE1).

As soon as the 128GB SE1 launched, I sold my iPhone 6s Plus to a friend and got the SE1, with no regrets.

The 13. It was too big, so after a couple of months I bought a 13 mini.

Anything after the XS Max - Imo, that was peak iPhone. I regret getting the 13 Pro Max. The 14 Pro Max I have is nice, it's just getting too expensive and the features don't change much anymore. I even thought about selling my 14 and going back to my XS Max. It's sitting in a drawer.

All these posts show me is that everyone is different.
One person says the 6S is the best phone they ever had, the other person says they absolutely hated the 6S.
One person says the XS Max was the peak of iPhones, the other person says it has a horrible camera.
One person says the 14Pro has an awful display, the next person says it’s the best display they’ve ever seen.

My current iPhone 14 PM. Can't play games like Genshin without stuttering and it's just overall a downgrade over my iPhone 13 pm.

What do you like about the 14 Pro Max vs the 13 Pro Max?

To this day I wish I had skipped the iPhone 6 and instead gone from the 5 to the 6s.

The iPhone 6 was a bit of a "road apple" in that it had a larger screen to drive but they didn't upgrade the memory (1GB) or the flash storage controller from the 5 or 5S.

The 6S got twice the RAM and a MUCH faster storage architecture. It was a HUGE jump in performance and capability and this also shows in how long Apple kept supporting it with new updates. But who could have known at the time, and coming from the iPhone 5 I was desperate for TouchID!

As a result the 7 Plus was the first iPhone actually waited in line for because I was so desperate to ditch the 6. I had spent most of that year wondering if I should just buy a 6S, but resisted as I felt it was a waste to have a phone for less than two years.

My mom, who was a very light phone user, then used my old 6 for years and had no complaints. :)

I've had the 3GS > 4S > 5S > 6 > X > 11 > 13.

4S was the one I regretted the most. Unpopular opinion, I know, but I never really got on with mine. The battery was extremely unstable in mine and taking a few photos would cause it to drop 20 % in an instant. Cold winter days was also a problem.

The 11 was too big and heavy. I didn't like it at all, but it was a work phone.

All others have been great.

My worst was the iPhone 6+.
Had to have the display replaced on it twice due to flickering and responsiveness issues, the dreaded touch disease.
Also coming from an iPhone 5, there was noticeably more lag as time passed while I had that iPhone 6.
And I only had that phone for probably about a year, it was already starting to have issues.
The 6S+ and 7 were amazing though, probably two of the most significant hardware upgrades since the 3G to 3GS, and it shows. both of those phones got to iOS 15 while the iPhone 6 got stopped at 12.

Definitely the 6. My 5S suffered water damage and I was using a burner 4 in college 2014. I definitely should have looked into getting the 4 downgraded to iOS 6, as I probably still could have used apps even though iOS 8 was the newest option. I think the fact that iOS 7 was so performing so badly on the iPhone 4 was a thorn in my side driving me to upgrade.

Only had the 6 for a year until my family went to AT&T and we each got a 6S Plus. My iPhone 6 was so bad—warped frame, not recognizing touches, subpar battery life. I could literally fit a sheet of paper through the corner of the display and the frame when I sold it to Best Buy. Got the highest value for it though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've owned a 4, 5, 6, and XS Max. Used a 5s and Xr for work so they were free.

Probably the 5 if I'm honest. Minimal change from the 4. 6 was the first phone that felt like it had a normal sized screen so that was a pretty big deal. Still rocking the XS Max. It's been a workhorse.

I’ve only owned 3 iPhones but if there was one I may have had a slight bit of regret with it would have to be the Xs Max.

The Xs Max was a decent smartphone but the camera lacked versatility (no ultra wide angle camera or proper night mode when most flagships had them at the time), the battery life was okay (fell behind most flagships) and iOS was still lacking a few things, I could say I jumped in just as iOS was about to bring things I wanted.

When I got the Xs Max I also had a Huawei P30 Pro, so I was partially disappointed at how outdated the Xs Max felt in both camera and battery life, luckily the 11 Pro Max arrived with a proper ultra wide angle camera, night mode and incredible battery life gains that completely obliterated the Android competitors.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 11 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max, but the Xs Max definitely goes down as somewhat of a regret.

The XS.

I had an iPhone X and when it got damaged, my insurance refund me the money so I bought the XS as a replacement. Until this day, that's the only phone with which I had hardware issues, after getting hit by a few drops of water in the bathroom, the screen stopped working. I gave it to repair and get a 3rd party screen replacement, which was crap to be honest, and it stopped working too. I gave up and a few weeks later I bought the 11 Pro.
