Went from the original --> 3GS --> 4S

I'm also doing alternating years but the opposite from you. (3G, 4, 2012?)

For what it's worth, I think you're doing it the smarter way. You always have the "2nd gen" of each design while I have the first. I think your quality of iPhone is usually better because of it.

I agree and have felt the same way since the 3GS. i feel like I have a more refined current model phone, and so far haven't had 1 single major issue with any of the phones I've had.

I also went Edge, 3GS, 4S, and I agree, that's the best route. Apple's iPhone releases feel tailored to reward the original adopters.

This poll is clearly a statistically accurate representation of the general population of iPhone owners.

EDIT: OMG, whoever downrated my post needs a sense of humour!!!

I would have thought the majority here would be 4 or 4S owners and poll shows that.

I'm a 4S owner myself :)

I've done what SandboxGeneral did also -- the one conciliation I'd say is that when the 4 came out (maybe less so the 3), I was jealous of not only the new form factor (well, this is definitely not true with the 3 -- I thought the original iPhone looked better) but more of the fact that, with Retina, there was all kinds of apps coming out to take advantage of the 4's new feature set, whereas with the 3GS and 4S I feel like the new iPhones haven't particularly caused a big bump in what's available on the app store.

Had a 3GS years ago which I didn't look after. Pretty much destroyed it but it still worked but then sadly went into the washing machine and didn't work. Still got a decent price for it though.

Bought a 4 in January but the lock button wouldn't work so just got a refund.

Bought a 4S recently though and plan to look after this one very well. :)

I've had every iPhone since the original. In most cases I've upgraded at launch with one exception. Going from the 3G to the 3GS I waited for my contract to run out. I'm currently on the iPhone 4S and will get which ever model comes out next.

16GB iPhone 3G , 32GB iPhone 3GS , 16GB iPhone 4 , going to skip the 4S - waiting for the 5th generation :D .

2G (backup phone)
3G (gifted to GF when 4 was purchased)
4 (launch day, stolen Oct. 2010)
4 (replacement, purchased Nov. 2010)

I actually just retired my 3g (purchased 2009), for the 4s. Passed on both the 3gs and 4, great shift aside from battery life woes. Also went from black to white

Pantech Duo (WM6.1) >>> Nokia E71 (Symbian S60) >>> Samsung Captivate (Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread over the course of a year) >>> Apple iPhone 4S. That's 4 years of phones for me. Hopefully the 4S sticks around for a while!
