old ati Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB of GDDR3 memory or new shared nvidia 9400m 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM ?

I would think discrete is almost always better, but the nvidia is newer and I tested out an imac with the nvidia and motion seemed to work fine.

Thanks. :D

Video editing is not depending on the GPU, more on the CPU.
So both will do fine.

I once edited a DV encoded short film with my 12" iBook with a 32MB GPU, and it was not different to a better GPU. The CPU is used when rendering (if even necessary). Displaying video content is not hard to do for even a lower GPU.

Effects software uses the GPU more.
