1 x read with BD media is 32Mb/s (4MB/s), thus a 12x BD-reader should get 48MB/s, which USB 2.0 will not offer, as it peaks at approx. 35MB/s.
A 10x BD-reader will theoretically offer 40MB/s, thus it is a bit faster than USB 2.0.

I guess you want to rip BD media, thus you want the fastest?

Correct. I want to start ripping my movie collection.

Can you tell me where the limitations of the firewire connection?

No limitations, as Firewire will be a bit faster, and use less CPU (Firewire has a dedicated chip, USB has to use the CPU).

But if you only want to rip one movie per week (or a bit more), the USB BD-reader might suffice.

I'm a fan of firewire in general and I would if I was you pay a small fee for the difference especially if you plan on ripping a lot of them.

Thanks for the input fellas. I think I'll spring for the for the FireWire drive as I do plan to rip a few movies a week.

Thanks again!
