which is faster?

Hey everybody. I'm curious about something. When I finally finish building my G4 Sawtooth (all I need is my optical drive, which should be here tomorrow), will it be faster than my G3 ibook? Here are the specs:

G3 ibook 700Mhz, 640 MB RAM

G4 Sawtooth, 400Mhz, 1 GB RAM

Is the G4 faster than the G3, even though the G3 has a faster processor?

i'm sure someone can give you a more complete answer... but the answer is, it depends...

the g3 is better at some processes, while the g4 is faster at others

I'd say the G4 will be faster, especially with the extra RAM.

Yeah, I have a 7200 RPM, 160 GB hard drive in it.

That will make a huge difference then. Also the upgradeability is obviously far greater with the PM.

You're now into the 'No Contest' phase. Everything about the G4 is faster. It won't even be close.

It should be about the same at a lot of things. But anyway, upgrade the CPU and you will have one slammin' mac.
