I have a mid-2009 MBP which I am trying to upgrade with parts laying around the office. I have my choice of two HDDs:

1) An Apple-ROM 500GB, 7200 RPM which is firmware limited to SATA-1 speed.
2) A non-Apple ROM 500GB, 5400 RPM which can do SATA-II speed.

So, am I better off with the faster rotational speed but slower transfer speed or vice-versa.

Thanks...

Why not try both out by installing OS X on both and try each out and decide for yourself which of the hard drives works better.
