Which Jailbreaks are Tethered? -Redsn0w-

I'm getting a bit confused as to which jailbreaks are still tethered, and which are not using redsn0w. Some help would much appreciated!

Please assume I'm talking about 3GS with the new bootrom only!

4.0-
3G- Not tethered
3GS- ???

4.1-
3G- Not tethered
3GS- ???
iPhone 4- ???

4.2-
3G- Not tethered
3GS- Tethered
iPhone 4- Tethered

4.2.1 is still tethered for the new bootrom 3GS.
All previous firmware are untethered though.

You don't need to restore if you're on the right firmware version.

ok so seeing as I am on 4.2.1 I can just go ahead and download it and follow the guide, should I use the tethered or wait until the untethered is finished. Any good download links, is this a good place to be

What would happen if I connected to itunes after the JB and if I decided to remove the jb could I just restore back to a previous backup through itunes?
