Which log to monitor sleep?

Is there a log file that I can access through Console that will tell me when my Mac enters and exits sleep?

var/log/system.log

It's in the sidebar in Console by default, since it's used so much. When your Mac sleeps, it will record it here, and on wake it will record the time it woke up and the reason.

Thanks. I guess I have to be logged in as adminstrator to read it? Is there any way to authenticate instead of logging out and then back in as admin?

It would appear so:

-rw-r-----   1 root   admin   20123 Aug  8 11:45 system.log

Console doesn't show anything when you try to use it to read the log?

I got it--just had to log out and log back in as administrator. Thanks!
