Which Mac OS to put on iBook?

Hey all -

Yes I'm a newb to the Mac world. Hoping to get some simple help with what I would see as a quite simple question.

I currently was given an Mac iBook G3 900MHz and it's currently running 10.3.9.

Some software that I was looking to install requires 10.4.9, I'm not familiar with the names yet although I believe 10.3.9 is Panther and 10.4.9 is Tiger?

Is it possible to put tiger onto this laptop?

10.4 is tiger and yes it will run on your iBook. Might be good to get the ram up to 512mb or more if you can. I'd go with that, you'll need a retail copy, which can be bought online or cheaper on ebay.

And please use mroogle or google to search next time

JG271 is right, tiger requires lots of ram, or else it's not worth the upgrade.
Those ibooks can hold 684megs of ram at max, so at least buy another 256 meg stick so you will have 512 megs of ram, which keeps tiger happy!http://images.macrumors.com/vb/imag...acrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/blackapple.gif

I prefer the Tiger but you will need lots of memory. If you dont mind paying for 4GB I will recommend it.

Bad recommendation, seeing how those old iBooks top out at 640MB or so...
