I am need of a secondary computer, and would like the feature of air play and understand you basically need a 2011 or newer mac. I have a late 2011 15 mbp and works great for airplay (does not get hot) but its my computer that I use for work. I had a 2010 13 mbp and used a display port cable to hdmi to stream content to my tv, but got hot, seem to be very hot.

Can I use a 2011 13 mba to for airplay for long amount time will it heat up and cause a problem for the computer.

It gets hot because of the graphics/video. That's normal.

If you want it mainly for AirPlay, get an iMac. It'll take the heat better.

I Dont mind if its hot as long as it does not ruin the machine. The reason why I wanted a Mba also for portability on weekend trips for web, emails light duty.

I know the imac has a dedicated graphics card but does not help the portability part.

Im pretty sure ALL new computers have a fail safe built into them that shuts the computer down before the processor melts itself.
