Which macbook pro to get?

Hi everyone, i'm pondering on which mac to get for my upcoming job...

I'm a graphic designer and I will be needing a laptop that will perform well without much hiccups when using photoshop, illustrator, indesign, after effects, maya, and modo 301.

i'm considering th 2.93 15 inch mbp... im avoiding the 17 inch due to the fact that I would like a fairly portable laptop.

what other recommendations would you suggest?

also, im a college student so is there any other trick out there to get a deeper discount other than the usual student discount?

I think, considering the easiness of upgradeability in the 15", you have hit the sweet spot. Go for the 15" 2.93 with 4gb RAM and the standard disk to start, then as you go through school, upgrade the RAM to 8gb when it is financially feasible, and the HDD to SSD when those come down in price.
