Hi,

I had to return my 16" due to the ghosting issue a few weeks ago.

So I'm in the market for two new Macbooks, a lightweight travel device and the next generation of the 16" which should be my primary desktop.
I was thinking of getting the new 13" air as a stopgap until the next 16" gets released and I'd then keep it as a travel device.

However there are more and more rumors about an upcoming 12" floating around.
The 12" would be the ideal ultra portable device, but do you think it's worth waiting for?
And how are the chances that it will even be released this year?

Other than that there might be a updated base 13" which would probably be a more powerful stopgap and I could change it to a 12" later once they get released.

I'm mostly doing web developement and working on remote servers, so my ressource usage shouldn't be too high.

This is kind of a luxury problem, but having a separate desktop and lightweight travel device helps my workflow, since an iPad isn't the right device for me.

What would you do?
Get the Air 2020, or even the 2020 13" base?
Wait for the ARM 12"?

Air is more lightweight system
Pro base is better for cooling system and more power if you use much resource togheter

But if your work don't need so much resource, maybe Air with i5/8/256 is a good choice (or i5/16/256)

I chosen the PRO 10th generation because I work with editing system (Photo and Video)
But You use major web system so the Air is good and much cheaper

Actually wait the ARM system, in my opinion, have no sense. We do not know when it will come, how it will be and if it will go well

Well, I can't wait any longer and will probably either get the Air 2020 or Base 13" today.
The air has a newer cpu and is more portable, the Pro however has a much better cooling system + better screen.
Tough decision...

edit
alright, just ordered the base 13“.
Will either keep it as a travel device once there are new 16“ models or change it to an new arm 12“

I think people are finding that the Air is a poor machine in use cases that go beyond facebook and web browsing, so the 13" will be the better of the two you listed.

I'm not hearing any complaints from a few I know have the new MacBook Air, its a nice system. I have a 13 MBP and its definitely more powerful (and more expensive). If money is no issue, go with the MBP. But the MacBook Air is good for things beyond Facebook and browsing for certain. I have a MacBook Pro 17 (old machine) and I do much much more with that - just not heavy duty photo work. It does not break a sweat with Excel, Word, Google Docs, Youtube, watching movies or anything else and it is a lightweight compared to the MacBook Air. Plenty of memory is the key.
