Looking to purchase a 2011 MBP 15 for the family. Most family usage will be simple things like document editing, email, web browsing (no heavy duty gaming), but I also need it to run Xcode (Aperture and iMovie on rare occasions). The MBP will sometimes be connected to a 27 inch Cinema Display.

Recently tried a 2011 i7 MBA, but found it a little short on compilation horsepower and screen real estate (try running the iPad simulator). Compiled a sample project on my MBA and a base 15 MBP: the MBP was 2x faster (quad core for the win).

So thinking of ordering the base 2.0GHz 15 MBP with the high resolution anti-glare screen. Will add 8GB RAM and put in my OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

Pretty sure I don't need any more GPU power, but not so sure about the real world differences between the 2.0/2.2/2.3 processors.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
