Fellas, I need your valued opinions. I've been using my HP DV9207 since 07. Bought it at a price which I thought was a steal - $800 only to find out it would have numerous issues down the road. It was a mistake i've lived with till now, hopefully. I'm looking to purchase a MBP but am wondering if the base 15 inch will run HD video just fine. The HP i'm trying to replace would play some HD fine with no stutter, but the 1080p's would stutter and over heat the laptop. Granted it's now four years later so I'm thinking even the base MBP will run 1080p mkv with no issues. Maybe some heat but no stutter? Am I right to assume this? If I am, then what would be the advantage of getting the 1 GB GDDR5 on the 6750M vs the 256mb. The majority of HD content I play is Soccer matches so it'll be fast moving video. Any help would be appreciated as I have disassembled my DV9207 and am waiting on upgrade parts. Thinking maybe I should just trash this. Thanks guys.

My 2010 MBA can play 1080p MKVs just fine (as long as the bitrate is not too high) so any 2011 MBP should play them with ease.

My acer 532h netbook with a n450 atom processor and 1gb ram can handle most 1080p mkvs

Oh, yes. Any of the current macbook/macbook pro/macbook air models will do HD just fine.

Thanks for your quick responses fellas. Great then. I'll be looking at purchasing one with the higher resolution screen later today. Very appreciated again.

The CPU is really the only component that makes a different, so the 2.0 GHz Quad Core i7 will be way more than adequate. You should have no problem with full, non-rencoded files blurays too.

Just keeps getting better. I will be purchasing the base trim MBP 15 inch. With high res screen option and leather seats of course. Just wish it came in jet black. Thanks again Adriank.
You think they'll have the higher res screen available at the apple store or do i have to order online? Thx again.
