In my home with many Apple portables and Macs, I recently replaced my old AirPort Extreme with an ASUS mesh system (XT8). It’s working well for general internet connectivity but sucks for AirPlay streaming between devices. And Asus’s customer service is a joke. I’m considering scrapping it for a different brand that plays better with my devices. I see the Apple Store features Linksys and Eero. Any suggestions for an Apple/AirPlay-friendly system?

Odd, I have a pair of XT8’s and use AirPlay with no issues, including to non Apple devices. But the XT8s were a pain to set up. Wired backhaul.

I don't see why a router would interact with Airplay at all. As long as all devices are on the same network it should work. But if you're shopping for a new mesh system, keep in mind that Eero is owned by Amazon, so you might want to avoid that brand if you care about privacy.

I have an Amplifi Alien, and had their HD router before that. They are the consumer division of the enterprise networking company Ubiquiti and make their money by selling hardware, not advertising supported by personal data.

Try AmpliFi, which is a mesh system or can also be purchased with just one router; one of the guys responsible for the developing the parent company -- Ubiquiti -- is a former Apple employee and this definitely shows in the care with which the AmpliFi is presented to the consumer and how it works in actual usage.
