I am looking for a network harddrive that will:

1. Wirelessly backup 2 macs using time machine
2. Allows me to conveniently view all of the pictures and videos which I will store on the drive (like a dedicated app) - remotely (ie not while at home)
3. Allows me to access the time machine files on the drive conveniently remotely (not while at home)

Also - will I be able to backup using time machine when I am not on the wifi network (away from home)?

I found these two, but am open to other suggestions. Thoughts?

1. Western Digital My Book Live: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...TF8&colid=1L7IEPC0R5SPX&coliid=I38VGENDNEHDP0

2. Buffalo LinkStation: http://www.amazon.com/BUFFALO-LinkS...45141296&sr=8-12&keywords=Cloud+Storage+Drive

Take a look at the Synology product line. I just purchased a DS212j last week and I outfitted it with two 2TB drives running Synology's version of RAID. It can do everthing in your list and alot more.

Thanks. I looked into synology briefly and the reason I didn't list synology, however, was that it seemingly provided the same utility for double the price and some people mentioned problems with time machine. Do you find these to be the case? Will the harddrives I list above be just as good or better (they are certainly cheaper)

Thanks!

+1 for Synology. I think for the functionality, it's actually quite affordable. I wasn't too keen on the OS until I actually picked up a unit and played with it. I haven't had any issues with backup or streaming photos and videos.

Another +1 for Synology, Best NAS on the market. Never had an issue with Time Machine and I have several devices backing up to it.
