Hi,
I currently have a mid09 13" MBP (2.26GHz, 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD).
Looking for a new rMBP and unsure between models, these are the two I was considering given my budget.
13" - 2.4GHz Dualcore i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
15" - 2.0GHz Quadcore i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
Screen size/Portability is not a major issue, coming from my previous 13" both sizes are fine.
Planning to buy a monitor to use with the rMBP to give me more real estate for coding when at home.
Uses will be coding, occasional linux VM, web browsing, messages, iPhoto, watching movies, casual photoshop etc.
I don't do gaming and I'm not a designer/movie maker so won't be using those kinds of apps.
My last MBP has lasted 5 years and I'd like the new one to last that long too and have good performance.
Questions
1.) Which would you suggest (i.e. Are the QuadCore+IrisPro significant improvements to justify the 15")
2.) After choosing which machine you recommend, would you think a 16GB ram upgrade is worthwhile to future proof, or unnecessary for me.
Thanks
