As they are all connected via USB, it's shan't be a problem to use them.
Firewire would be better of course (and more expensive), as the old PPC Macs don't have a that good implementation of USB as today's machines.

iBook G4 = 20 MB/s under Leopard
MacBook Pro Unibody = 33 MB/s under Leopard.

I recently bought a Stardom dual hard drive unit with firwire 800 connectivity and could not be happier with it

If your in the market for something to backup with use with TM or storage device I would look into these as they are designed specifically for Mac

That would be because USB requires processing power to transmit data, while firewire doesn't. The PowerBook with the slower CPU is not able to process as much info at once so therefore there is less USB throughput.

Overall firewire would be a better choice as mentioned before.
