The 24" MultiSync® LCD2490WUXi is £100 more expensive than the 26" MultiSync® LCD2690WUXi. Is it a better display? Im not that familiar with the different display technologies.

I am a Graphic Designer, so looking for the most suitable display, the only advantage I can see of the 24" is a higher pixel density.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 26" is a wide gamut and the 24" has an sRGB gamut.

I suggest researching the difference before buying. Also the 26" is the more expensive display, I think it had a $200 bigger price tag when they launched in the states.

NEC has release a newer version of the 2690, as the LCD2690WUXi2-BK.

The pixel density would likely make a difference to you, given your needs.

You can also find the 2490 as a refurbished unit, allowing you to save a considerable amount, as they go for ~$640USD. I picked one up, and am quite happy with it. I added an extended warranty, and it still came out to just under $760USD with shipping. :)

Thanks Umbongo, I researched the difference between the two and decided that the 26" would probaby be better for me, and also the 24" is not availiable in the UK.

I have been looking at other alternatives though, does anyone have any opinions on the Samsung SM245T ?

The main concern with buying the NEC is that it is quite bulky, if it was going in a studio it would be fine, but as its to go in my bedroom the looks of the display are fairly important. And also the lower pixel density of the NEC is a concern.

How do you think the Samsung compares, and would it be suitable ?

I am almost settled on getting the NEC 2690 over the Samsung 245T.

How much of difference do you think the Pixel pitch/pixel density will make? As the NEC is only 1.5" bigger im thinking it might not be overly noticeable. I do quite a lot of vector work in illustrator if that makes any difference.

I really need to make a decision quickly, as my new Mac Pro will be here very soon!

It might not be too much of a difference, but some can tell, and find it annoying. Now way to know until you can look at it I guess.

If you're interested, I found a lower cost alternative. Refurbished NEC LCD2490WUXi-BK.

Might be worth a look. At least the pixel size is smaller. :p

Just wanted to report back: I went with the NEC Multisync LCD 2690wuxi in the end.

I couldn't be happier, the display is simply awesome - colours / quality / viewing angles etc all look excellent and i find the resolution is perfect. The design of the screen looks really smart too.

Thanks for your help, i am really pleased with this purchase!!
