Sorry I posted in the AirPods thread as well but wasn’t sure which would get more responses. Mods can delete one if needed

Being the apple addict I am, I can’t help myself. Treating myself to a new device with Christmas bonus and can’t do both haha. I have an Apple Watch series 5 titanium. I would appreciate the faster charging, speed increase, and longer lasting battery life as I’m a pretty heavy user of my watch. As far as the AirPods Max go, I’m not much of an audiophile but I do listen to podcasts every day and will be doing some heavy studying for boards over the next year (including listening to lectures) and the noise cancellation would be very nice. I have loved my AirPods Pro and use them for several hours a day so I’m intrigued by these, however the price does scare me off.

Thanks in advance for any opinions

I’m not an audiophile by any means, but my vote would be for the headphones if you think you can use them. The titanium Series 5 cost a decent amount, and to me at least, I’d feel better splitting that cost over two years, rather than one. Plus, there’s the rumors of a potential watch re-design next year, so there’s a strong possibility that you’d want to upgrade again then.

That's the problem with the Apple Watch, anything better than aluminum costs a **** load and a year or two later you hvae reason to want the new one.

save your money all together ...
. AW6 offers not much over AW5 unless you NEED oxygen measurements, esp Ti you'll lose a lot of money, and there is the potentially all new design AW7 in 2021 that you will want to upgrade again
. for podcasts & lectures, why do you need a $550 headset? you can get a Bose or Sony for like $300 that will do just fine, if you were an audiophile, maybe, but quite frankly there have not yet been any reviews yet that indicate it's any better than what's out there already ...

But, it's your money and you can do as you please ...

You answered your own question already. You stated you aren’t an audiophile and use your watch heavily. If you really need to spend more money on Apple toys, get the series 6 instead of the AirPods.

I, too, have both a S5 watch and AirPods Pro. I really cannot see either a S6 or the AirPods Max being worth the upgrade cost. But if you’re really set on one or the other, I’d say the headphones. I’d definitely not give up on a Ti watch after 1 year, and you can use the AirPods Pro and Max for different things.

Yea. I’m regretting the titanium now for that reason. I went with it for the sapphire screen since I scratched my prior aluminum and didn’t care for the shininess of the stainless steal

I would say keep the watch you have and if you want something with noise cancelling get the Bose or Sony especially if it’s podcast you are listening to. Not being an audiophile I wouldn’t think it would be worth it. The one thing that I think is nice about the AirPod Max is the spatial audio for movies but sounds like you wouldn’t be doing much movie watching with them.

I upgraded from AW5 to AW6, so I can say there isn't much of a difference to justify my choice.

As for AirPod Max, I think the price is too high at this moment. You just said you're not an audiophile, so they're pointless for you.

BTW, Target has the Beats Studio 3's for $174.99 if you're looking for a decent over the ear headphone set.
