Hello! New to the forum and will be getting my first MacBook Pro or and Mac for that matter in a very long time. I got two options and I’d like to know which one is a better choice. The research is getting very irritating at this point. One is a 2018 with 1tb ssd 32 gig ram, 2.2 ghz for $1900. Also comes with apple warranty till dec of 2021. Other is a basic 2019 16gb ram, 256gb ssd, and 2.6 ghz speed for $1700. Both are 15 inch. I’d just like to know which one you think is better and if there’s something specific making it an easy choice to let me know. Thx! Many postings!

you need to pump up those numbers a little and get a brand new refurb 16 inch from Apple for $2079.

only reason I would buy a 15 inch would be to burn it so the world has one less butterfly keyboard, since the inevitable extinction of them has already begun

however, if you are ONLY thinking of those 2 specifically. for $200 more, in the $1900 one, you get 75% more space in the hard drive, and double the ram. so I would do that, but I wouldn't ever do that, but if I were you, I'd do that

You need to try out the keyboard before you buy. I got used to my 2015 butterfly keyboard but did suffer through periods where certain keys simply didn’t work. You don’t want to go through that. Spend a little more and get a 16” (2019) or a 13.3” (2020) with a respectable keyboard.

Appreciate it, but is there any other reason you’d get the 16 inch besides a the better keyboard. Does a better keypad equalize the added ram and ssd?

Scavani23,

Personally, I have a mid-2015 MBP. However I too am looking to upgrade soon. Now, having been a Mac user for a while now (since Apple II, in fact), the 2019 model would be the preferred option.

I say this due to the keyboard issues that prior models have experienced (except my MBP has no issues at all). The upgrades to the '19 model-from what I have read-far exceed those of the prior models. The overall CPU, look and feel are points that have been long-awaited for the MacBook Pro.

RAM? 16GB is the starting standard, imho.
SSD? 1GB would be good start, as many programs are quite large, and you should try to keep ~40-50% hard drive space empty if possible.

But, these are my personal views; others have theirs as well.

Good luck!
