I've found that while the refurb section on Apple.com has some great deals, the sales tax usually kills them. I live in Texas, and we have 8.25% tax.

Which online retailers that you know of don't charge sales tax? I know Amazon doesn't, but they don't sell refurbs, and I've seen better deals at places like MacConnection, CDW, etc.

try amazon, jr.com or macmall.com, i know amazon doesn't charge tax for most states.

Isn't the general rule that an online store only has to charge for sales tax if they have a physical store in that state?

Yep, if there is a physical store in the state the online store should charge sales tax.

just search for whatever you are buying through a bottom price comparison shopper and you can find th ebest price there. Macrumors has one.
