This Samsung external USB blu-ray drive has worked well for me:

The cord is replaceable, you can make it as long as you like. I wasn't sure I needed a blu-ray at first, but it was the same price as the SuperDrive, so I was like - why not?? :)

Later on I found myself ripping blu-rays to put on my iPad, so I'm glad I got a blu-ray drive. There are some models that only READ blu-rays which are cheaper, I've yet to write one.

Yep... just grab about anything you can find. This inexpensive one from Amazon Basics works well.
It may require 2 USB ports unless you also buy a power adapter for it.

I guess thats an added benefit of my "Samsung SE-506BB/TSBD 6X USB2.0 External Slim Blu-ray Writer Drive (Black)" - uses only one USB port.

I have the Samsung SE-218 and I am very happy with it. Works great for my needs.

How did you get it to work? I have the same exact one for my iMac 24" (early 2008) model. It doesn't detect it for some reason when a disk is in the Samsung drive. I'm on OSX 10.9 and I'm not sure if that's the problem.
