Which OS 4 version to upgrade to for 3G?

Hi:

My phone has been back and forth--I upgraded to 4.0 and chose to multitask--not a good idea as phone slowed right down--went back to 3.1.2, which is very stable, but I now have battery issues--my battery shows full all the time even when it is empty. I am going to upgrade to 4.1 or 4.2 (maybe that will fix the issue) and not choose to multitask, so the phone should run fine (or so I hope). Plan on keeping my baseband where it is at now--05.13.04-5.9_M3S2.

Do any 3G (not 3GS) users who are not multitasking have any opinions on which is more stable--4.1 or 4.2??

I have 4.1 running on my 3g without multitasking and it runs decently. Still not as zippy as 3.1.3 (What I had on the phone when I bought it) but it's not too bad.

iOS 4.2.1 is surely the best of iOS 4, but still not as fast as iPhone OS 3.1.3.
