Which OS for iPhone with watch?

I usually wait to upgrade to the new iOS until my new phone arrives...but apple is royally screwing up with my order so far this time;(. Who knows when my phone will arrive. My new Apple Watch (series 2) is arriving in Friday. Will it require iOS 10?

If it has Watch OS3, which it will, then you will need iOS10.
