I have a 12" PB, 1Ghz, 768mb RAM, 40gb HD with some cosmetic damage (dents) and a perfect screen.

I also have a 17" PB, 1.33Ghz, 1.76gb RAM, and NO HD with no cosmetic damage and a perfect screen.

The batteries on both are about shot and only last 30 mins or so. And I don't have the original powerbrick, I use an iGo charger.

I want to sell one to put towards an MBA but I want to keep one as well. Which is more valuable? Also, would replacing the HD on the 17" bump up the value a ton? or would it basically add the cost of the HD to the selling price?

I like having a backup. plus i occasionally use one with my tv to watch movies.

with a harddisk in it you can prove it is fully working so the value wil be somwhat higher that without HD. Also the buyer will not have to bother to put one in.

keep 17" for bigger viewing pleasure since 12"PB and 13"MBA would be of more or less similar size, PB 12" have lots of takers in ebay but surely 17" would sell for more considering u have maintained it well

I recently bought a PB 17" 1.33 Ghz original specs for $570 but tht was my good luck, otherwise u would be able to fetch 800 or more for 17"

Yeah keep the 17, sell the 12. The MBA will be your small laptop and you probly will never use the 12 again, so may as well keep the bigger 17' screen for watching movies and stuff.

It's not about which would be better to keep. I'm trying to figure out which to sell to get the most money. I don't watch movies on the laptop, I watch them with it hooked up to the TV as a kind of ghetto Apple TV.

I wish there was a Kelly Blue Book for laptops.

Well I ordered a HD replacement for the 17", an 80GB Seagate for $75 hopefully this will add in to the value of the computer and I can get 700-800 for it.

So if everyone agrees the 17" is more valuable what can I expect on return for it? One post said 800, one said 500 but it was a steal.

Anyone sell or buy one recently?

Same base specs but with 1.76gb ram (and probably a brand new power adapter since i don't want to give away my iGo)

The 17'' is definitely worth more, but why would you want an Air and a 12'' PowerBook?

Ultimately the Air would be my day-to-day home machine for browsing and light work in PS or Flash. The 12" will be hooked up to the TV for videos and to be left connected to my MyBook until Apple get their head out of their arse and fix the AEBS with Time Machine. Once I get the MBA I'll be saving for an iMac for serious work when needed.

Good call. Keep the 12" Powerbook. It has far higher intrinsic value than the 17" Powerbook. I don't think I'll ever get rid of mine....... unless of course Apple comes out with a new 12" MacBook Pro or something.....:D
