Noob here as regards RAID setups. I need to set up cheapish RAID 5 storage for video editing on a Mac Pro. Only 1TB or so is needed, but speed is important, so I was thinking of using 3 Raptor drives in spare internal bays with some kind of hardware card. This would be for Avid DNXHD185X media - same data rate as uncompressed SD - and RED camera files.
Is it straightforward to connect the Raptors direct to the RAID card, rather than the Mac's internal bus?
Any advice as to suitability of this setup and/or which RAID card - there are so many options, even just from Highpoint! - would be greatly appreciated.
