Not looking to spend a lot for the wife but we need to get her a computer. She would be using email, internet, Word and Adobe Lightroom for her photos. So I was wondering is there a particular refurb 13" we should aim for? Is it worth an extra $100-$200 to get a faster processor (i5 vs i7)? 8 gig Ram would probably be suffice and want 512gb Flash. Is there a particular one you would pick over the other?

MacBook Pro Retina - Late 2013 $1409
13.3” retina
Dual-Core i5 2.6Ghz
8GB
SSD 512GB
Intel Iris Graphics

MacBook Pro Retina - Mid 2014 $1529
13.3” retina
Dual-Core i5 2.8Ghz
8GB
SSD 512GB
Intel Iris Graphics

MacBook Pro Retina - Late 2013 $1599
13.3” retina
Dual-Core i7 2.8Ghz
8GB
SSD 512GB
Intel Iris Graphics

MacBook Pro Retina - Mid 2014 $1699
13.3” retina
Dual-Core i5 2.8Ghz
16GB
SSD 512GB
Intel Iris Graphics

I would get the first one.

She doesn't need processing power and 8 gb would be enough for her. However, ask yourself how many years you expect out of this computer and if it's greater than 5-6 years, you might want to choose a model with 16 gb of memory

or even the last one because for $200 more dollars you are getting a really fast mac. Maybe if your budget can do a little more get the 15" at macmall or B&H photo

But just get her the I7 one for 200 more it is worth it

You can get the i7 512 at B&H for $1649. It will be cheaper than the refurb with tax. They also have the 2014 2.8 i5 for $1599.

Based on experience i think you should go with the 15". You can use it too

I'm already on a 15" Late 2013 1TB maxed out refurb. :) hence why I want to get something for her so she won't use it. Lol. Actually it's time we just get 2 laptops so we don't have to share.

Any will be fine

For that use case any macbook will be absolutely fine...
