hey i'm looking at getting my first macbook pro 13" and am tossing up between the 2.6Ghz model with 4GB RAM, or dropping down to 2.4Ghz but bumping the ram to 8GB. Which situation do people think would give the most notable real world benefit?

Get the 2.4ghz and stick with the 4 gbs of ram. There is no point in getting 8 gbs especially with a 13" MBP.

Severe waste of money you would never go over 4 gbs to warrant 8 gbs.

so it sounds like the difference between 2.4 and 2.6GHz is minimal?

Yes it is. I agree that 8GB will probably be overkill for this setup. Suggest that you purchase the low end and take excellent care of it so that you can resell it at nearly full value and purchase the next update when they add new processors. Doubt that this next update will take 9-10 months again.
