HI

I thinking of buying a Macbook pro 15” 2.0 or 2.2 2011

My use of the computer is work and pleasure

For Work i use

Word
Excel sometimes files up to 15 MB.
Mail
Cord
Adobe PDF
Safari
Firefox
Chrome

At Home I use the computer for

Photos.

I take a lot of pictures with my Canon 7D the photos isbetween 8-10 MB each.

I use Iphoto for very small editing.

My Iphoto with 30.000 pitures and .mov files i 205 GB

Video editing

I use Imovie for Video efiting. I a have HD sony Camcorder.

I also rip my childrens DVD’s so the can se them on Apple TV2 and on the go.

Is the graphic card with 256 mb in the macbook pro 2.0 enough?

Do I need too 7200 rpm on the disk for video editing or isit okay with 5400 rpm.

Which suites my needs the Macbook pro 15” 2.0 2011 og theMacbook pro 15” 2.2 2011?

Yours faithfully

hello kasper.

i think that you should opt for the 2.0GHz MacBook Pro - the difference between 2.0GHz and 2.2GHz is not very much.

i also think that you will be MUCH better off with a 7200rpm drive - it is evident that you require the hard disk storage space, otherwise i would recommend that you purchase a SSD hard disk. (get a 500GB, or 750GB option)

also, the 256MB graphics card should be sufficient for you

For the tasks you mentioned, 2.0GHz model is more than sufficient. If you plan on having the machine for a long time, get the 2.2GHz model. The graphics performance on 2.2GHz is a lot better than the 2.0GHz one and it also has better resale value.

... and it also has better resale value.

While this is true as an isolated statement, it is not the ideal outcome practically speaking. It has a higher resale value since it cost more money, but that is not the right way to look at it. Consider how much money you will lose in the sale, and you'll see you'll lose more when you go to resell the more expensive SKU.

The 2.0 base model for sure. However, if it's in your budget, the upgrade to 2.2 and the 1GB video card is well worth it if you plan to keep the computer for a few years.
