Hello! I am in doubt about which MBP buy. I have now a brand new iPad Pro 12.9” 2020. So first of all I decided to buy the 16” version, but after seeing a lot of issues with this MBP, I though that it’s better to buy 13” MBP and I can’t decide for one of them. I was thinking to return the iPad Pro and get the 11”, to take the 13” MBP, but before of that I had an iMac 21.5” with an iPad Pro 12.9” 2018, and I don’t know if I am going to used to this sizes.

I test a MBP 13” an a 11” iPad Pro, but sometimes I felt that I want the bigger one of each one .

I am a student and I used iPad Pro for taking notes, media consumption and play games. And the MBP I am going to use for study, do some task, organize me and more.

You could hold out for the 14” MacBook Pro if you don’t need one right away but we don’t know if it is coming this year or next year.

Personally I’d go for the 12.9” iPad and 13” MacBook Pro. I had both of those and it’s a great combo.

But nobody knows if it is going to be released next year.

My doubt it’s that I won’t use my MacBook Pro if I have the same size in my iPad

It’s pretty much a certainty that by the end of 2021 there will be a 14” MacBook Pro.

As for the other part, only you can answer that I’m afraid.

Well. The big difference between the 13" and 15"-16" models is that... the 13" is the normal, day-to-day model (despite what the name says), and the 15"-16" models are the pro ones, the beefy ones. The screen size is not something you will, or at least should let fool you into spending quite literally double the money to buy the new computer. You can buy a better and larger external monitor with the difference. Likely half the difference.

If you don't plan to edit videos in 4k, or is working with related industries, it is hard to recommend the 16" model. Not many games will benefit from it, and if you want to game you are better off spending that money on a top gaming windows laptop.

If you plan to use the laptop for things you can't use your iPad pro for, you should go with a base 13". You can likely get away with a 2015 13" model, to be honest. It should be half the price of the 2020 model.

For an older mac, I do not recommend anything other than the 16" between 2016 and 2019. They use the butterfly keyboard, which is arguably worst to type on and are known to break easily. Often without no clear reason but "dust int he air".

The question is: Do you need a computer for heavy-duty? Do you just need something light to carry around the day and do things the iPad can't? Or you really just need something with a keyboard you can use on your lap? For the first choice, it's either a 16" or gaming computer, windows. Second, 13" (2020 or 2015) or another (probably cheaper) ultrabook, windows. If you just need a laptop, go for a windows device, or a 2012-2014 13" MacBook model.

I hope I helped!

I use a 2015 13" MBP and an iPad mini 5, I love their sizes. When I need (or "miss") a bigger screen I connect them to my 4K monitor (at home) or to an HP external monitor (at the office).

The power of the 13" Macbook Pro is more than enough for the tasks that I normally perform, but my question above all is with the screen size, since I do not know if it is redundant to have the same screen size for two different devices and in the end end up using only one.

I think you would end up using only one. That has been my personal experience at least.

I have currently three laptops and an iPad. One 16" MBP is the main work machine where I spend 95% of the work time. Then I have a Lenovo for some special stuff for a customer and an older MBP which run beta software development for Big Sur. If I did not have these special use cases I would be full time on one machine which for me is the 16" as I need both the power and the screen size. iPad is for me again a different use case, media consumption on the couch.

So if you do not have special use cases that would force your to use multiple tools I think you gravitate to one, whatever you think works best for you.
