Hi all,
I just replaced my HDD with a SSD and am now looking into replacing the DVD with a second hard drive.

What should I be aware of in terms of those cheapo caddys from dealextreme?
- some come with spikes in the side to hold the SSD.
- some not, but with plastic to reduce motion.
- some are said to be heavy.

Is there any reason to by anything else than the cheap ones to 7-8 bucks including shipment?

Thanks for any advice.

They are all pretty much the same. I ordered the exact same thing from Amazon and its been put in my Old White Macbook, Sisters Macbook Pro and Cousins Macbook pro with no problems so far.

I would go for the $10 ones!

Hey, I am not sure, I get you: We are talking about an internal caddy - as a replacement for the superdrive. Not an external usb-caddy.

just becareful on the screws when you do the replacement.

I stripped one of the screw that's holding the super drive and now it's stuck in there.

I've used only the cheap ones, and after multiple installs, they continue to work fine. One thing to look for is one that has the tabs to screw into the MBP (like this, and not like this).

Saw this thread right below the current one.
