The ssd would be fitted as a 2nd drive in the imac all done by authorised reseller so i wont lose the warranty. The only thing is they dont stock any ssds so i need to bring my own. So if it brakes applecare wont cover it. I could also replace the original 1tb hdd for something else, any suggestions on that?

I'd strongly suggest you look at OtherWorld Computing, either the whole hog (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/turnkey/iMac .

But their ssds are really touted for performance and reliablity.

Anand has been recommending the Samsung 830 of late.

I have the Intel 330, it's good but wish I'd gotten one of the above as FileVault performance with the 330 is balls. :) (FWIW, it's great if you're not encrypting the drive)
