Thanks very much for the replies. The reason I am curious is to find out how much the optical drive weighs. I am thinking of removing it and putting an OWC SSD there and am trying to find out what the weight difference would be.

Negligible difference. The difference in weight will mostly depend on what kind of caddy you buy.

I recently replaced the Superdrive in a Macbook and today put a Intel 510 SSD in my 2011 MBP and although I did not weigh both, the SSD felt slightly lighter weight then the optical drive. Honestly, installed I don't think you could tell either way.
