Have a bit of a quandry. Have been offered a used 2013 Air with i7, 8GB RAM and 256 SSD for CND$900 [no tax] or should I just buy a new i5, 4GB RAM, 128 SSD for CDN $1049 [plus tax]. First time buyer of Macbooks, so can't tell which is the best deal. Any comments helpful. Thanks!

I'd go for the the 2013. Twice the RAM and storage and the price is fair especially for the Canadian market.
Thanks but have new info. Was bought in 2013, so could be a late 2012. Would that even matter? Still sounds like a decent deal. The owner is willing to go to an apple store and have it checked out and wiped before selling it to us.

If it's a 2012 then that changes things. 2013 was the first year with the much improved battery life.
Also for your information, there is no late 2012 model. There is mid 2012, then goes to mid 2013, early 2014, early 2015.

Figure out if it's a 2013 or a 2012. The 2013 runs cooler and quieter and faster and gets twice the battery life. Even the 2015 model isn't materially better.

I have the macbook air early 2014 1.4 GHz i5 8GB Intel 5000 Graphics, which really is a 2013. This is really interesting because my macbook air does not show it's date in the -About This Mac Windows-. This is a problem because It's going to take some value at the moment to sell it.

Here you go, type your Air's serial number and it will tell you what model it is.
