I've recently bought my first new MacBook, a 2018 version, and I'm pretty new to this. One of the challenges I'm running into is that I have still a lot of older hardware, such as an external screen, a harddrive, a mechanical keyboard, etc.

I am now looking for a dock or hub. I found this article https://www.usbctoday.com/best-usb-c-hubs-docks/ which recommends a few, but it's a little bit older, but I'm not sure if the hubs listed there are still the right ones.

Would appreciate any recommendations on this!

Thanks for the reply! That looks indeed like a great device, thanks for sharing. I find it still a bit silly that something like this is almost required, but I guess it's welcome to dongle world. Thanks again, I'll add it to my possible list, though I might go for something with Thunderbolt instead (this one doesn't have Thunderbolt right, just HDMI?)

I use this one. I like that it attaches directly to the MacBook (vs. a cable) so that it looks integrated. And it saves space.

Great product.

As you can see, I've been using it for a year, and it's been reliable.

These 'docks' look great when the computer is sitting on a desk... but for 'on the go' computing, I much prefer one with a cable... the rigid dock makes me just a bit uneasy... if something bumps it wrong, you can snap it off or destroy your USB-C ports on your MB/MBP... just my 2 cents.

Here's the one that I use, from Anker:
