I recently purchased a new macbook. I knew going into it that some sort of multiport adaptor would be necessary for my use, especially when I'm using my laptop for powerpoint presentations. When doing that, I'm usually plugged into a power source and have always used a wireless presentation remote that connects to the laptop via usb. For this sort of use, apple's multiport adaptors would fit my needs well.

But I'm wondering which of Apple's multiport adaptors would be more "adaptable" to different situations as I can't always know in advance whether I'll need to use HDMI or VGA. I'd like to avoid having to get both of Apple's adaptors. So, is it cheaper and/or easier to go from HDMI to VGA or the other way VGA to HDMI?

Thanks for the input! Have you (or anyone else) had success connecting an HDMI to VGA adapter to Apple's USB-C HDMI multiport?

I do not. I have the Apple hdmi dongle, but don't have any need for VGA. Going the other way is a (near) impossibility though.
