I am a recent mac convert ( though I've used Solaris/Linux at work for years, so I should have made the switch a while ago!!). I started out with a used G3 imac 600mhz to try out os X. I use the g3 mostly for iTunes and as a web machine for my kids. I am now at the point where the hard drive and lack of any burning capabilty are getting in the way. I was thinking of buying a more recent, but still used mac to serve as my new iTunes box.

I have been considering a G4 imac or G4 powermac. In either case I would like the machine to be able to run Leopard ( so I need at least an 867 mhz proc ).

From looking around, it seems like you get more "bang for the buck" with a g4 powermac compared to a similarly priced imac.

I have heard though that the powermacs can be noisy.

Any comments / recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I do have a 2.2 ghz macbook pro, so I don't need the used machine to be able to do any real heavy lifting.
