Just changed my mail from IMAP to an Exchange server and was wondering if I was going to see better or worse battery life - anyone got any idea / experience?

You'll have less battery life, but not by much. IMAP/POP3 checks with the server every 15/30/60 minutes. Push is always on pretty much.

For productivity it's worth it though.

For me, fetching every 30 minutes has proven the best compromise between productivity and battery life.

thanks to all for the info... will check out the article when it's back on line... and for now the push is really working better for me from a productivity POV
