Any ideas, im sure its 10.4.10 but I cant remember.

It is not the OS, but the computer's firmware.

Just try holding option at startup and see if you can see it.

You are right you can boot any version of tiger from a USB drive as long as the computer supports it. All intel macs support it and later ppc machines.
 
Hmm strange, i must not of copied the image accross correctly because it picked up 10.5 Client/Server off the USB drive but not the 10.4 i had created, oh well will try again in the morning.
