I’m a fan of the Siri watch face and also the activity ring face but am wondering if their constant updating does indeed waste battery life?

Surely there must be some faces that hardly use any battery life.

I’m running on the S3 btw.

Presumably the minimalist ones with a black background.

Those waste the most battery?

I would guess the ones with the most complications. But that’s just a guess. And the. The question is by how much? An extra 10% per day?

Again, I’m on the S3 so am not using an always on display. But I’d imagine the technology behind the always on display would not make much of a difference

The difference is minimal, but if you want to save as much as possible, try to use the simplest watch faces that also have the most black areas. That means the display wouldn't be using as much power as if it was white or any other color.

I have used a variety of watch faces. I have 4 favorite ones but I stay on the Infograph Modular most of the time.

My favorites: Infograph Modular, Modular Compact, Solar Dial, Infograph.

I've used my favorites album as a wallpaper once - but didn't really notice much of a battery life change, just that I used my watch less because it had less info on it.

I much prefer Infograph modular. I have Carrot Weather doing a 5 day forecast with exercise options on the bottom for convenience.

But to answer the question - I haven't noticed a noticeable difference in battery life consumption using these faces. Biggest affect on battery? Turning off always on display and turning off siri.

Why are you even worried about this? If it’s that big an issue, then a smart watch is not for you.

Any watch face with more black that has no automatic updating complications will use less power. But would you notice that reduction in power? Nope very unlikely.

The main thing is going to be if you have a complication that relies on your current location such as weather etc. These are going to keep the location tracking active and consume the most but if you have to have one of those at all you might as well go nuts and add all that you want.

The 2 main battery suckers on the Watch are screen and radios (wi-fi, bluetooth, cell). For the screen as its been said here darker colors with less screen area lit would consume less. For the radios/connectivity some complications pull data from the internet and they do that with background activity sessions so those complications would drain the battery the most. As for complications in general they are refreshed by the system for the most part and also via app background activity 4 times an hour for short period of time if needed. Overall the way Apple implemented complications is very power efficient (sometimes to the detriment of end users complaining of them being unresponsive) and should not have any discernible effect on battery life if they use on device data and dont fetch or push anything over Watch radios.
