I've found that I can have a rain complication, a conditions complication, and the same in smart stacks.

But they all contradict one another.

It's come to the point that I don't trust them.

Would you recommend a third party app?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of Carrot Weather - but it isn't free. I love their 5 day complication for the watch face that I use. As far as accuracy - maybe just me, but been noticing that a lot of weather services are very inaccurate these days, more times than not.

Carrot requires a paid plan to use complications on the AW - but you can also choose the most accurate weather source for your area. https://www.forecastadvisor.com/ - type in your zip code and see which weather service was most accurate for your area. Then choose the source in Carrot:

Thanks for that, BigMac.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad thing about Carrot Weather. It’s apparently good, and very entertaining 😀.

I might give it a go, if it’s free to try, then sign up for the complications if it’s accurate.

Thanks again 👍🏼.

I’ve never had much luck with weather apps. I always find it’s entertaining for it to say rain coming in 15 minutes when it’s already raining.

I generally stick to the built-in Weather app because of privacy concerns. Many weather apps aren’t really weather apps but GPS location collection apps. They make their money by selling your GPS location to advertisers or whoever wants to pay for it. I’ve even seen paid weather apps where they sell your location. You can turn off GPS location in some of them, but then it makes it less accurate and you lose some features.

If anyone knows a good weather app that doesn’t sell your data, I would be interested and would pay for it

I agree with all you say.

Dark Sky was good, but the app closed down when Apple bought it.

Apparently, Apple incorporated the tech into its own weather apps, but as you say, they can claim one thing, when another is the case.

I’d happily pay for an accurate weather app. You can plan your day accordingly, if you know what’s in store with the weather.

I do know that carrot weather gets good reviews here in MR.
I do know that the stock app isn't really accurate at least for my location. I'm in Southern California so you'd think forecast is easy but it is highly inaccurate, eg 10 days ago or so there was nothing in the forecast for rain but we ended up having a thunderstorm with some heavy rain for like 15 min or so...
but, because of my location, weather forecast doesn't do much for me anyways. It's mostly a question will it be hitting 100F or not ;)
Rain? Gotta love it when it happens ;)

And yes, I know, very very different in the UK or many other regions

Had to 😀 at your post!

I’ve found with the stock weather app, you’d be better flipping a coin re if it’s going to rain or not 😮.

At the moment, the best way for me to gauge the weather is to 👀 out of the window …

After years of testing I have no doubt Apple's own Weather is the best in all regards. Carrot is my next go-to. I also check Snowflake and Weather Mate Pro just because I'm a weather geek.

Cant really blame any of the apps to be fair, its the data they receive at the end of the day.
Good point.

The only thing that confuses me is that I can have a rain complication, a rain Smart Stack, and a conditions Smart Stack, and they all contradict each other.

Makes them pretty useless.

I was personally using Weathergraph for a couple of years. I decided to switch initially when Apple Weather alerted me that rain was going to start as I was in the middle of a torrential downpour. Up until recently Weathergraph, in my experience, using the Foreca source was quite accurate. Precipitation alerts were reasonably accurate, temperature reading seemed more or less correct across the board, and I enjoyed the information density of their widgets. I didn't even mind when the complications on my Watch wouldn't update in the background because the app was useful. That has since been fixed.
However, about two months ago I stopped getting precipitation alerts. As far as I am aware Weathergraph is a solo dev project and I could not find anywhere with bugs posted like a GitHub page. I tried the Pirate Weather source and the alerts did not come back. I tried OpenWeather, no improvement. Digestible information on what exactly makes each weather source better or worse is also annoyingly sparse.

So long story short, I ended up back on the default Apple Weather app. It is good enough for where I live.
