i am considering buying a refurbished ipad and i have a choice to make and don't have enough experience to make the choice.

for the same money would i be better off with an ipad 3 with 64gb or an ipad 4 with 16gb. I will use it mainly for reading and free games and apps.

For the same kind of money you should be able to pick up a 32gb Air.
That would be my choice over the others.

I don't know which price level you could accept, but for future updates and use, it is possible to see if you could get an iPad air or even iPad air 2.

If you're only going to read and don't really expect to play games - go with the iPad 4.

The 3 is terrible, and essentially an iPad 2 with retina. I had it at release, and would stay far away. The 4 was actually good, and I very much enjoyed it.

But search for an Air, or even mini 2..

iOS 10 is not going to see iPad 4 so don't bother... Try used/refurb iPad Air 2

You can have external drives, but the selection is limited.

Well, I personally don't think you are going to buy an iPad Mini 1... IOS 9 runs slow on it..

Don't buy anything older than iPad Air 1. When so many tell you the same thing, you really should listen. If you can't afford one now, save up and buy later.

I agree. I have the 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2. The 4 still has plenty of pep compared to the 3. I wish I had skipped the 3.

I didn't really use any iPad except first generation.

But I have received many reports saying iPad 3 is one of the worse release of iPad, due to its powerless processor and retina display. I feel next iPad would be an iPad with least feature potentials due to "crapping" hardware.
