made repetitive clicking noises & backup speed crawled to near zero, then eventually completed backup normally. I ran Disk Utility / Repair volume and it said all was good. The backup booted just fine, but the fact that it hung up while backing up has my worry meter on '2' (out of 10). Anything else I can/should do?

It happens from time to time (the backup appearing to be "stuck"). If Disk Utility says it's fine and it's working fine, it's probably fine.

ok thanks for your input. I'm saving my pennies for a thunderbolt enclosure/ ssd drive, so i'll stick with this HDD for now!
