Every so often (but now with increasing frequency) I hear this noise (attached as video sorry- I couldn't get sound file to attach) whenever my Mac is in use. It's a whirring noise which lasts around one second and repeats every 5 seconds.
It starts as soon as I open the Mac, so I don't think it is associated with overheating, although my mac does get very hot occasionally even with the fan working at what seems full capacity.
Is this noise something to worry about? My Mac is old and I've been considering upgrading, but I don't really want to right now if I can avoid it. It seems to work well otherwise.
Model details: MacBook Pro 15" Mid-2015
Thanks for any advice!

It could be this, but I was kinda hoping someone would have an idea why it was activating so briefly, especially since the mac has had no chance to heat up by the time the noise starts.

usually the fan starts to spin fast when a certain app uses more processing power. YOu can also check the autostart apps of your Mac. If you don't think that it's not necesssary to be "starting up" upon start up, then you can disable it.

you can try installing TG Pro to see the temp and fan speed of your mac.
