I dipped my feet in the mac-water with a refurbed macbook. Went well and now that the kids have taken over my "toy" I am looking for an inexpensive, more permanent solution for them.

I am looking at the white refurbed imacs on Apple - the 24 (1199?) seems like a good deal. I also have someone that will sell me a 20' C2D with standard parts for $750. (there is a spot on the lcd - he claims it is 1cm and not dead pixels).

Or, should I just man up and get the new aluminum 20'?

Thanks!!

There is nothing wrong with the white 20 inch iMac model.

It all depends on what you, er. the kids, are going to use it for.

One nice thing about the white model iMacs, is that they have matte displays instead of glossy displays.

Just make sure you are getting a fair price and that it is in good condition.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I will let you know what the kids end up with!!

Don't know if I'd buy an iMac with a 1 cm spot on the screen - that's a lot bigger than a few dead or stuck pixels.

The white iMac refurbs are great deals, however. I would get one of them for the kids.

BTW, I find the iMac/MB combo to be great for families with kids.
