What really inspired this color choice? With the discoloration of the white power adapters, power cables. Syncing cables etc don't you feel black would have been more ideal?

No one other than Apple would know that. Everything else is just speculation.

It must be a personal problem because I don't have a problem with any discoloration. I prefer to keep my things clean.

I have tried to keep them clean too but the original whiteness has been impossible to maintain. Even my earpodes have faded.

Always been that way since original Macbook and iPod. I'm sure it was a design decision in line with Apple's iconic minimalist themes.

Personally, I don't have any problem keeping everything clean, but it would be cool to have the option of different colors that were OEM Apple made.

Because everybody else uses black/dark grey... and it went better with the white plastic MacBooks and all-silver/grey MacBook Pros. The white headphones became part of the iPod trademark.
