I recently replace the hard Drive in 24″ White iMac. It was being very slow and unresponsive. After bumping the ram and clean installing the OS on the original HD without any improvement, I thought I would put in a new HD as a final step before giving up on it.
It worked a treat. Boots in about 10% of the time and apps ping open... problem solved. Yes, but no...
Now the machine seems to just shut down and I don't know why. The new hard drive I put in is a Seagate 2TB drive. It is running Lion. All apps are unto date and it is not doing anything heavy (PS or FCP), just iWork and safari.
I don't use this machine much and have not identified how long it takes before shut down or whether anything else happens immediately prior. The machine is behind me where I normally work so I really only notice it has gone dan when I turn around.
Any thoughts or diagnostic suggestions?
